Letter :: Ellis :: Month Two

Dear Ellis,

Sweet boy, where to start? You have charmed us with your good looks, increasing rolls, double chin (and chubby cheeks), and sweet-natured personality. You go with the flow and are so content and inquisitive (when you're not "snoozing away" as your brother likes to say).

It hit me this week that I can't remember what it was like to not be your Mama. It's such a privilege to snuggle you, to care for your every need, to welcome you into our everyday life. Our family is so much better with you in it...God knew exactly what we needed by bringing you into the world, and into our lives.

Let's see, this month you started smiling and trying to "talk" to us. I loved you as a squishy newborn, but I  r e a l l y  love seeing you interact. You're the most smiley for me first thing in the morning. I love getting you up, saying "good morning" in my annoying high-pitched mom voice, and watching you grin with your mouth wide open and your eyes shining up at me. It seriously melts my heart (as cheesy as that sounds).

You love looking around and are so interested in listening to the creative stories that your brother loves to tell us. In the car you are content as long as we're moving (preferably going at least 40 mph), but start to fuss when we slow down/stop at red lights.

You keep your hands in pretty tight fists, and just this week I noticed that an odor was coming from your palms. I had to peel your fingers back to reveal the stinky finger/hand lint that had likely been festering since your last bath. Needless to say, I'll be doing a daily hand cleaning to make sure that doesn't happen again (gross!).

At your check up this month you weighed in at 14 lbs 8 oz. Your brother was 15 lbs 15 oz at the same age, so you're not quite as chunky as he was, but you're pretty close. You're already wearing 6 month clothing...I'm completely fine if you decide to slow down a little bit in the growing department ;)

Just before your "two month birthday", your Auntie Ashley had her baby. You're exactly eight weeks older than him and I can only imagine what great buddies you'll be. His name is Roman and he seems SO TINY compared to your chunky self. I have a feeling we'll be finding lots of excuses to hang out with Roman this summer! Get ready for lots of pictures to document the two of you as you grow up!

I don't like to brag (especially not around other moms who have babies that struggle with sleep) but you are a champ in the night. You still need to eat around 2am, and then again around 5am...but you don't cry or fuss when I lay you back down (as long as you've burped). You just lay back down and fall asleep. Thank you for that! I can't imagine how hard it would be if you were crying uncontrollably and I wasn't able to comfort you (especially in the night)!

Oh, and you starting actually "playing" with (i.e. batting at) your toys this week. SO EXCITING! So, let's keep this up...the smiling, playing, interacting...and of course the sleeping :)

Mostly though, just keep being you. I love you more than I have words to say, and just like I remember with your brother at this age...I'll keep growing to love you more and more with each new phase and milestone.

You are truly a blessing little man. I am in awe of the gift of having two healthy boys. Thank you Jesus for giving me this job of being your Mama. It is such a joy; yes it's exhausting sometimes but it's also the greatest thing I've experienced...and I know your Daddy feels the same way. He told me tonight when he called to check in from work to give you and Harry a hug and tell you how much he loves you both.

Here's to another month down, and another one to come! Can't wait to enjoy all of the fun of summer with you and your brother.

I LOVE you "bwudder" (as your brother affectionately calls you)!

Love Always,

Your Mama
